Description
The two towers of the Canadian First World War monument on Vimy Ridge in France, one of the sites I visited when I cycled the length of the First World War Western Front in summer 2011 with my partner.
The monument is at the heart of the Canadian memorial part atop Vimy Ridge, which also includes a visitor centre, preserved trenches and First World War tunnels. Vimy Ridge was chosen for the memorial because the Canadian Corps headed the storming of the German-held Vimy Ridge defences in 1917, defences which had held off Allied attacks earlier in the war.
